Today, write about a way in which you are currently being stubborn. Or, a way in which someone around you is being stubborn (though I think hard looks at the self are usually far more interesting).
Here’s mine: The “i” key on my laptop is in a cycle of working maybe every 10th time I press it, then it works great for an hour or two, then not at all for a while. I have more immediate financial priorities at the moment than a new laptop, not to mention a fairly snug schedule for the next few weeks that doesn’t include the research and time to get get another, so I’m making it work with a combination of additional keyboards, my phone and going back and copy/pasting and “i” when needed. Would it be easer to just go get a new laptop? Sure, but, for now, I’m going to be monstrously stubborn and stick to my plan.
Sure, that’s a high-class problem, and I am fortunate to have that to even worry about at all. But, there’s definitely plenty to use as a writing jump-off point there around technology, the nature of work, planned obsolescence of goods, the manufacturer, what feels urgent versus what feels like it can wait a while, financial priorities, and so on. See where a stubborn spot in your world leads you in your writing practice today. Or “n your wrtng practce,” as the case may be. Let’s go.
Also: I created a whole-ass 6-month Zoom support system/course to help people doing creative work end loops of frustration/stagnation and build a framework to get/keep their creative shit together, promote their work in a strategic way aimed at building momentum, and feel good and safe about how to be SEEN doing their creative work.
It’s called The Seen AF Method, my project to help people doing creative work challenge narratives around said creative work and visibility and build a unique-to-their-art strategy to set themselves and their work up for more. I’ve been having fascinating conversations with folks about it and am not kidding when I say I am excited as hell about what folks are going to do.
Learn more about the whole thing here, and/or book a chat with me about it here to see if it’s a good fit for the era you’re in right now.
Alternatively: I’m also opening up monthly memberships later this week that will include a workbook of DIY visibility strategies, 24/7 access to my Slack discussion community and access to regular group coaching calls. If that might be your jam, reply to this email to find out more.
