Take two pieces of writing that you previously wrote. Now, write a new piece that serves as a transition between the two.
If Piece A is about a museum in London, and Piece B is about a restaurant in, say, Arizona, it might be difficult, but you could Google the two places together and you’ll discover there is a London Bridge in Lake Havasu, AZ, for example.
The exercise forces you to look deeply for connections, create logical transitions and, most importantly, build upon your existing body of work by filling in the areas adjacent to where you’ve already put writerly stakes in the ground.
