In the school of thought that generative A.I. (like ChatGPT) is best thought of as an intern or assistant (who might be able to get an outline together that helps organize some of your thinking around a topic, but who wouldn’t, say, write the actual book for you) consider where it might make your writing life easier in ways like aforementioned outlining and structuring, in generating SEO keywords for online pieces, or in generating specific ideas to write about around a general topic.
At the same time, remember, too, where AI is nowhere near close to threatening your work as a writer: building narratives, interviewing people well, editing well, fact-checking, and, of course, writing about very important things at the core of just about all good writing: the human experience, your particular lived experience, and your well-earned expertise.
Today, free write a bit about where you might be curious about trying to use A.I. in your life to help you be able to spend more time doing great writing.
