How do you know when you’re being vulnerable versus when you’re not being vulnerable? What does it feel like or look like on the page?
In western culture, specifically in American culture that is so deeply propped up on individualism and performative displays of... well, everything, vulnerability tends to be regarded as a liability. But, to be vulnerable is hardly a weakness. Quite the opposite. To tell a story in your way and confront difficult truths and really break down the truth of the thing in your writing (or, say, in your life) takes courage.
