Make a list of all the big dreams you have or have had at various points in your life. The ones that seem so big they maybe feel silly to name. The ones that might seem impractical or impossible. The ones that make you think, “who am I to want or deserve that?” (If it helps you feel freer about it, write them on a piece of scratch paper so you can destroy the list later.)
When you finish your list, look it over and start your writing today by digging into one item on there: write the status of that dream, what you’re doing about it (or not doing about it), why you want it, what might happen when it actually happens, how you feel about naming that dream, when you first realized you wanted that, what fills you with joy about this dream, what fills you with dread about it, what it feels like to admit wanting that dream, what the even-bigger version of that dream is… and on and on. Try to write as much as you can about this one, single hope.
Then, give that writing some air and revisit it later in the day and see what stands out. Maybe you see rationalization, excuses, or fear. Maybe you accidentally wrote a path forward for a big dream you carry. Maybe you have yourself a damn good idea about the way forward. Just notice what’s there. Let’s write.
