How do you celebrate things in your life? Perhaps make a list of what celebration feels like to you, then pick one and write about it. Or, if you haven’t celebrated yourself as much as you’d like, maybe that’s the prompt, too.
This is a curious topic to me for a number of reasons, but mainly because I didn’t grow up in a particularly celebrate-your-wins environment (nobody’s fault; just a more utilitarian situation is all) so it’s something I’ve had to learn how to do (hashtag work in progress). But, it’s also a fascinating topic to me because in our culture that prizes hustle over results, and busy-ness as a means of validation, we aren’t exactly conditioned to celebrate our wins, and when we do aim to celebrate them, it feels like we have to pick from flimsy options, usually in the form of product marketing (think the “reward yourself” vibe of chocolate ads, for example) and it’s usually highly gendered.
So, as per usual, I’m joining you in this writing prompt today, and in search of less commercial/more meaningful modes of celebration, too.
