Celebrity encounters
And a weird story about my late silver screen star relative
Today, write about a connection to a celebrity, living or dead.
I grew up knowing I was distantly related to a star of vaudeville, Broadway and the silver screen (he and my great-grandfather were cousins, as the story went) and always felt quietly glad to know that when his name or films ever came up.
Strangely, just a few days ago, I took a wrong turn and ended up at a beautiful cemetery. I whipped out my phone and Googled notable residents of said cemetery and was shocked and delighted to see his name on the list. But then I found his grave and was shocked even more to realize this week is the anniversary of his death. How random. Of all the days! How eerie in a good way.
As I write this, I’m listening to a recording of his voice crooning away, feeling connected to this ancestor who went for it and won.
