Consequences of being your full wild and weird self
Seriously, the world needs more originals, so let's get straight on this
Today, write about a time in which you decided to do something unconventional and experienced judgment from others for daring to deviate from the norm. As someone who is basically wired to constantly question convention, I think I’ve probably had more unhelpful reactions than supportive ones to bold moves I’ve made in my life, so I sympathize. But, I also know that when a person is very entrenched in the status quo of an unexamined life, anything that might cause them to consider their own choices feels like a threat and it isn’t unusual at all for people to act out when they feel threatened, even about shit that has nothing to do with them.
So an unconventional choice could mean anything from dyeing your hair pink to quitting a “good” job, from putting your things in storage and traveling to changing careers or spouses or continents, or whatever this prompt brings to mind for you. People trip about weird things when they live on “shoulds” more than they listen to themselves. Today, write about that.
Be sure to include in your writing whether or not the judgment you felt from others caused doubt in your mind, caused you to change course (for better or worse), whether you were disappointed by the bulk of reactions you got or, if you did ultimately support from someone, and what that support meant to you. Let’s write.
