As an exercise, open a browser tab and go to the main page for any news outlet you choose. Without scrolling down, select one headline from somewhere on the page, and write about what you think of that issue or event, and include why you are the person people should listen to about it. (Also, click through and read the story behind the headline, obviously.)
For example, if there is a headline on your local news outlet’s website that is for a story about a city council ordinance prohibiting people using “dibs” to save parking spots on the street in winter, you could write about why you oppose the ordinance because you’re 84 and don’t want to schlep your groceries several blocks home. Or, if there’s a story about an organization looking to raise money for a healthcare cause, you could write about why the cause is important to you based on a personal experience with that health condition.
You get the idea. Go for it.
