Today, write about your life’s motto. And, not in a cheeky and breezy way; get into why you operate under that belief, what it’s meant for you, and how it has served you.
I’m not saying it’s easy to boil your entire life down to one phrase, nor am I suggesting you should. But, surely there is some mantra of sorts that have been a thing that’s worked for you for a long time, or that you built your life around without realizing it, or that made all the difference during a particular era.
I have operated under and told myself to “figure it the fuck out” my entire life. And it’s a little funny and a little dirty, and blah blah blah, but also by using it as my writing prompt, I can quickly find myself writing a whole lot about childhood trauma and how kids get hyper-vigilant and hyper-independent to protect themselves, about how self-reliance can both help and hurt, about how entrepreneurship and self-authorization can be applied to any field, how we have greater access to information than ever in human history and so on. The idea is to take your life motto and wring all the ideas you can out of it by tracing its origins in your story. Let’s do that.
