Finding visibility for your work
Start by reframing how you think about visibility in the first place
All November, we’re focusing on non-fiction writing prompts per usual but through the frame of also taking a good, long look at your writing life and overall creative career things you want to do.
As I have written before many times, visibility gets a bad wrap in a culture that, for a long time, has considered working yourself to death and asking for very little in return to be a badge of honor. Visibility is a resource, it’s a megaphone, it’s leverage, it’s a tool. And, it isn’t all-or-nothing, nor is it a one-size-fits-all concept.
Today, write into this idea: Imagine a future where visibility is a natural and positive part of your creative practice. How does embracing visibility change the way you interact with your audience, collaborators, or the industry? How does visibility align with the deeper purpose of your creative work? Or does it? Reflect on how more strategic visibility around your creative work might serve not just your career but also the communities or causes you care about. How might you use visibility as a tool for positive impact?
