Today, write the story of the most adventurously you’ve ever eaten. Explain what led up to eating whatever you ate and what happened after you ate it, but write it in such a way that the reader wouldn’t necessarily know from the start that the writing is about this food. (In other words, make it about the story, not merely about the food.)
Perhaps that means starting with a story about going to an important event, being served this food, then spending the rest of the night being creeped out by the taste. Maybe that means the time a special date was thrown off course by the consequences of being over-enthusiastic about a super spicy dish you wouldn’t normally order. Whatever it is, start with what happened before, build up to the adventurous food, and paint this picture for your reader.
(My own response to this prompt is a work-adventure in South Africa that culminated in eating a grilled caterpillar. It tasted the way a burning tire smells but I regret nothing.)
