Today, write about furniture. Maybe you have a specific piece of furniture you inherited, maybe you have a piece of furniture from a past relationship that you feel a way about, or maybe you found the best thing ever in an alley (shoutout to my perfect cabinet that cost me nothing but schlepping and a little refinishing). Maybe you are itching to report on a long-gone furniture maker once in your city, or maybe about the person behind it, or maybe about the labor practices of a big furniture company you know about. Whatever the idea of furniture leads you to in writing today, go with it.
Because that’s the entire idea behind these prompts: take a kernel of an idea and run with it in as many different ways as you like, wringing everything you can from each one through essay, reporting, interview, etc. Use them. Use them up completely then use them again.
