How do you promote your work after it’s published? Plenty of space online has been devoted to promoting books, but what about articles, op-eds and essays?
You absolutely owe it to yourself to wring all you can out of all of your work, so you’ll certainly want to share the piece with your social networks, but, if the work is timely, don’t overlook pitching podcasters and broadcast producers about it, too. Simply share a link to your published piece and let them know you can be a resource to talk about that topic. (Believe me, not only am I always glad to get a pitch from a potential resource, but this is something I have helped other people learn to do for years, so I’ve seen it in action in both directions.)
Remember, gatekeepers from editors to producers and broadcast hosts aren’t patiently waiting to rip you to shreds. In fact, if you come to them with a good idea, you’ve just solved a problem for them that day, so flip that script, as they say, and come up with a simple, short pitch to get all you can out of everything you write.
