Today, set a timer for at least five minutes (though ten is better) and write— without stopping— one sentence after another starting with the words “I believe…” Don’t stop listing sentences until the timer’s up.
Why do it without stopping? Because the minute you stop, the minute your inner editor and critic start their bullshit, and we’re here to capture the full fire hose of your thoughts, not edit them. Editing is for later; writing them down is for now.
Just keep finishing the sentence “I believe…” until the time is up, then go back and read what you’ve written. See what stands out. See that calls to you to say more about. Follow that. Let’s go.
