Write deeply and fully about what is keeping you up at night, literally or figuratively. Get it all out. Then, if you absolutely had to fix the issue to the level of being completely, 100% solved and done, write about what you would do about it. Then, consider your solution, and write about what aspect of it will not (or may not) work for you. Then, write about that part that won’t work as if you absolutely had to figure it out anyway, and so on, writing until you have written a solid solution that you absolutely could do if you wanted to.
For example, say that the thing keeping you up at night is very literal— your neighbor is playing loud music until the wee hours. And you best solution is to go have a chat and impress upon your neighbor that you can’t sleep due to the sound.
But, say you’re also super anxious or mortified about having such a conversation, so you consider that a non-starter of a solution. So, your task is then to write about the way in which you could have this conversation with your neighbor anyway, say by coming over with a pie, or by practicing your speech with a friend, or by treating the conversation super casually. It’s a solve-on-solve sort of exercise. Let’s go.
