Write a (sort of) travelogue by giving directions someplace without using any street names. Hear me out: imagine describing how to get to one of your favorite places not by naming roads, but by describing landmarks, things one might notice along the way, digressing into stories about places and so on.
For example, you might describe the way to your childhood home as one needing to listen for a river, then turning right when a neighbor’s rose garden comes into view; making a left at the finest taco stand in the world, but only after stopping for a particular taco; driving towards the setting sun until you see mountains. You get the idea. Challenge yourself to dig into your memory bank and guide someone to this place with other sensory cues instead of street signs. Let’s write.
