Today, write about a small action or ritual you do to make a regular “must do” task more pleasant, or rules/boundaries you have for yourself in that realm.
Maybe for you that means grading papers only using fancy pens that delight you, or decorating your cubicle at your soul-sucking dayjob with pretty plants, or wearing extra-comfortable clothes on days you have tough meetings.
One of mine is that I aim to get up, shower, eat breakfast and journal at least a little bit before I grant the rest of the world access to me. Does that always work? Absolutely the fuck not; sometimes gigs and responsibilities beckon far too early. And, it’s not the end of the world, but it also creates a difference I can feel in the tone of the day and in my mindset throughout the day.
So today, dig into that, into how you comfort yourself or set yourself up to succeed, into what happens when you don’t, into how you might do it more often and in more ways, and, if you like, into what might happen if you simply stoped doing the thing you had to buffer against in the first place. Let’s go.
