Today, write something (an article or an essay or anything you want) that is somehow connected to a game show.
Wait, hear me out before you dismiss this as a flimsy writing prompt.
For me, the show Wheel of Fortune reminds me of feelings of utter and complete relief because it reminds me of, when I was a kid, the time of day when my homework was usually all finished up, my folks were busy doing other things and I could settle in and read and be free of absolutely everything for a while. But, a recent conversation with a friend in which this topic randomly arose, she shared that the show reminded her of a sad and anxious time in her own childhood. Both of us have essays to write here about childhood memories and how they connect to dots in our adulthood, but we have two vastly different essays to write, neither of which is actually even about Wheel of Fortune at all so much as Wheel of Fortune is but an element that helps up both access a bigger story.
So, that’s your task for today: sit with the idea of game shows and jot down whatever memories come up and write about the memory that’s calling to you the loudest. Let’s go.
