Today write about a pattern or theme in your life. Now, that doesn’t have to mean writing a deep excavation of your romantic life (unless you want to do that) or a condemnation of your childhood (unless you want to do that), but any pattern or theme that is present for you, and where and how it has revealed itself in your life. This can be as light or heavy as you wish.
For example, I could write about how having a chaotic childhood has equipped me so well for crises that I picked a profession that specifically calls on me to keep a cool head in crisis, but I could also just as easily write about how my great-uncle Levi once boosted me up and had me pick a delicious peach off a tree that was bigger than my head (I was three, so my noggin was teeny) to occupy me on a hot summer day, and how I’ve spent the years since then in search of a peach that perfect to the extent that it’s widely known in my inner circle that not only do I love peach-everything, but I’m also a major league peach snob. No peach has ever measured up.
What I’m saying is: one is heavy-lifting, the other not so much. One is rather serious, the other rather ridiculous. But both are valid stories, worthy of being written. So, let’s write.
