Today, write about an experience that felt like a peak experience for the place where you experienced it (maybe even to the point that it felt like you were living in a cliché). Maybe that means an adventure with a cowboy in Texas, or perfect poutine in Québec, a night filled with political insider clichés in D.C., an adventure finding phenomenal Philly cheesesteak in Philly, an experience on a camel in the Sahara… you get the idea. Where were you and what were you doing when you realized you were having what felt like a peak, classic experience for that place?
I will probably start with the time I was working out of a hotel in Los Angeles and went out for a very short amount of time, only to return with the requisite kale salad and green juice to find the empty lot next door had been completely transformed into a pop-up EDM festival rave thing and I was suddenly walking upstream against what felt like hundreds of people wearing wings and body glitter and plush rabbit ears, and someone wearing flowers taped to her nipples looked at me and said, “Loving your biz-casj aesthetic, girl. YAS.” I’ll start there. But, as if often the case, the story isn’t really about that; it’s actually the story of a transformational trip that made me realize big things, but the prompt helps us all unlock those bigger stories in our brains by giving us a reason to tell them. Let’s write.
