Today write about a value that you see held as absolutely sacrosanct culturally though in your experience, it's far more about enforced conformity than anything else. How is this virtue celebrated and performed in word but weaponized to some degree in practice? What might happen without it? Where does it show up in your life? Are you into it or nah?
Some easy targets might be:
Connecting the dots between the “milk maiden” fashion vibe and women’s currently lopsided rights.
Or, the counter to that in which more women are talking about menopause/perimenopause in public forums and building community because of it.
Or the pervasive narrative that women are bad negotiators as a level of control. (I will die on this hill: if you’ve ever gotten a fussy toddler to eat or walked home at night with a safety plan of if-this-then-that, then you already know how to negotiate).
Choose anything about this that speaks to you (transparency, unpacking a cultural norm, anything) and use it to shape your writing today. Let’s get into it.
