Pick a place and time
A technique for immediately finding research focus when you got nothin'
Today, pick a place and time, and spend a window of time doing some research about said place and time until you find a thread of curiosity to pull that is in your general wheelhouse. And, pull it. Pull the hell out of it, in fact. Write about what you find.
Once, desperate for an idea, I literally tossed a coin onto a map, and started poking around about the place where it landed, which led me to find out about some companies that once existed in that town, which led me to finding out a kind of ridiculous amount of information about vintage glass dishes. But, it made for an interesting writing adventure, and one that sparked about a dozen other side ideas.
