I’ve been thinking a great deal lately about the ways in which modern life feels disconnected from seasons with practices like produce being shipped around the globe to be available year-round and the expectation that our waking and working habits remain the same all year, even when nights grow gradually longer and our bodies and minds seem to want to rest and reset.
As Winter Solstice unfolds in the northern hemisphere in the day and long night ahead (the time, as poet Debra Hall put it, the stars are “brought closer by the primordial dark”), I invite you to write into the idea of shifting and expanding mindfully and gradually into what you want from your next season, but also into the idea of taking an intentional rest or pause to reflect on your current one.
