Today, write about a skill you have. Then, peel back a layer and write about how you acquired that skill. Most likely, you’ll end up peeling back layer after layer, because learning how to do something is often on a continuum.
Say, for example, that you want to write about writing. Well, you didn’t just wake up one day with an MFA or whatever, you maybe had a great undergrad professor, and before that a great high school English teacher, and maybe loved to write as a kid and were encouraged to do so by a family member. Or, maybe you’re a great chess player who learned game by game, mentor by mentor? Whatever it is, let’s write.
