That narrative might just be wrong
We assume we're the problem when a rule of thumb doesn't work for us
Today, let’s challenge a narrative. Start with some “rule” about your creative work or the world that bothers you and write into the idea that there is another way and what that might look like. If you aren’t sure where to focus for this, think about the areas where you currently feel stuck. Maybe you’re submitting work and not getting published. Maybe you’re querying agents and hearing crickets. Maybe your momentum feels like it’s tanked. Maybe you feel pressure to pick only one creative discipline when your heart is calling you to write and paint. So, write around that. Instead of keeping on exactly as you have been, what might you do to work around it or approach in another way? Maybe the way you’re pitching your work is too passive or too longwinded; how might you try a different approach? How might your approach your project without momentum? What other part of it might you work on instead? Or, what if you do pursue both writing and painting with equal gusto? Who says you can’t do both? Dig into that today and see where you land.
If is is pitching that’s tripping you up, please know I offer a (free) pitching guide, which includes templates of pitches that you are free to repurpose for yourself. [Download for free]
