That which might be blocking
Where might we secretly/miserably be benefitting from a thing we can’t stand?
All November, we’re focusing on non-fiction writing prompts per usual but through the frame of also taking a good, long look at your writing life and overall creative career things you want to do.
When you think about your creative self, is there anything that you may need to address or sort out in order to get where you want to be?
Perhaps it’s simply a matter of time management or of finding a job that doesn’t drain your mental energy so you have the mental juice with which to write. Maybe you’re struggling w addiction or codependency or any number of things.
Write into that today, making a point to also ask yourself—very tenderly, mind you—how carrying that issue might be secretly protecting or benefitting you. Because maybe letting chaos rule your calendar makes it easy to avoid writing. Or maybe your awful and draining job helps you avoid being in your power because it helps keep you playing small and feeling victimized.
It’s tender, this part (and easy to become defensive here), but write into that question with compassion for yourself and just see where you land; see if there’s an epiphany you can invite onto the page. Let’s write.
