A little something to mull: “...pain is a calling signal. It is you pressing up against a block that stands between where you are and what you want to be.” - Brianna Weist
We all have mental blocks, pushing against us in quiet or ferocious ways, despite our efforts to ignore them. Their purpose is to keep us safe; safe in our comfort zones, safely not rocking boats, safely not challenging dominant narratives. And these blocks come in many forms: the less-important task that suddenly needs our attention (like a sudden urge to organize the sock drawer), a sense of uncertainty or overwhelm of where to begin, the sudden feeling that it’s too daunting and not worth finishing, and many others.
But, the blocks, doing their job of protecting us, are also sometimes blocking us from using our knowledge, expertise and gifts to benefit others. Let yourself wonder about what the blocks in your world are actually protecting, and whether or not that vulnerability, that frustration, or that pain point could, in fact, be a place to begin, a story to tell, a filter by which to explain something in a way others can better understand it. Let us think about that and give ourselves a good look to seek out and recognize things that are calling and things we, deep down, so desperately want to say.
