Today, make a list of things that seem silly and implausible but that are quite real. Pick one to dig into in your writing.
I give this prompt after reading about the next-level era of life-streaming already hugely popular in Asia but that is catching up elsewhere in which one livestreams hours of their life for audience tips. It’s a GRWM (“get ready with me”) video but hours at a time and about anything. Like busking via living one’s life.
And my predominant thought was: who in the hell would sit and watch someone’s life for hours on the regular? Not even the hottest and most interesting people on earth seem like they’d hold my attention for hours at a time, tbh. I’ve watched puppy-cams and awwww’d over wiggly little puppies but for maybe a minute or so, then I went about my day, and not many humans can even begin to compete with puppies.
But, after learning about some folks doing this for a living and making wild amounts of money from it, my thought was: yeah, I think I’m perfectly fine but I still cannot imagine how boring it would be for anyone to watch me in the majority of my day to day activities. No offense to me. No offense to any of us. It just seems so completely implausible on the surface.
But the point of this as a writing prompt is to dig deeper than knee-jerk judgments and learn more about something that seems ridiculous and then unpack and write about exactly what seems troubling about it on a broader level. Let’s go.
