The personal is political so try this
Write into it in a way that is not political analysis because that’s a whole different deal
We often say “the personal is political,” but we don’t always write that way. And plenty of writers tell me they shy away from writing into political territory because they feel like they need deep layers of analysis and data points to do so.
I’m not saying don’t include data to back up for points, but also try this to get yourself into this space:
Today, write about a personal experience that reveals something larger about the culture you live in. Don’t explain the culture—trust that the story you tell makes its point.
Write it like you would if you knew some credible person in power might read it. Let’s go.
