Why do you do what you do? As you can read about in The Purpose Project, the WDYDWYD movement is about people answering that question on handwritten signs, that then get posted to social media. But, it’s hard to whittle down your entire life purpose to one sentence in a snap. So, let’s work on that.
Set a timer for 10 minutes. Write, deeply, about why you do what you do. The “what” there can be tricky: it’s tempting to veer into your daily grind and think about why you, say, go to work (to pay your bills, support your family, etc.) but go deeper. Write about your higher “why,” about the thing that gets you inspired and motivated.
Then, and only then, whittle that swath of writing down to a paragraph. Then, to a sentence. This part will take you a while, most likely, and that’s okay. Once you get it down to a sentence or a phrase, you’re free to participate in the WDYDWYD thing and put it on a little sign and post it to social media and bask in the other work surrounding that hashtag, but the most important thing here is to know and feel and recognize your purpose, the thing that motivates and inspires you to be your best.
