What do you want to do after you get what you want?
Woof there is a lot to unpack on this one and I'm here for it
All November, we’re focusing on non-fiction writing prompts per usual but through the frame of also taking a good, long look at your writing life and overall creative career things you want to do.
Take a moment and free write about what success looks like for your current project. Challenge yourself to keep expanding your vision for the project’s success until it’s the biggest-possible set of outcomes that feel right to you. (But remember: challenge any internalized capitalism that might come up that tells you that it’s a competition with others and you must be at the very top of what you’re doing or you aren’t ambitious enough. Spend time deciding exactly what you want success to look like to be immensely satisfying for nobody but you, but also poke at it and challenge it to catch yourself playing smaller than you want, too. We have a very human tendency to make things a little smaller because of deservedness or because that feels safer or any number of reasons. Look for truth, not safety; truth not “should.”)
Next, write about what you want to do next after your current project or creative stage. While writing into that, be sure to note any shitty self-talk or limiting beliefs or fear or anything else that might come up. Write it all down. Peel it all back. Poke at it until you catch it lying to you.
Let’s get into that. You’re good. Let’s try.
