Take some time today to attend to the business and administrative parts of your writing. That might mean:
Reflect on your recent accomplishments of the last month or so
Reviewing your collected odds and ends of writing to see what you might want to pick back up
Editing a thing you’ve written (never write and edit at the same time; that’s like paving the road while trying to drive on it)
Going back through your notebook and organizing all of your recent notes
Adding new ideas to your main ideas file (or starting one)
Researching writer residencies, conferences and contests for which you want to apply
Actually applying to writer residencies, conferences and contests you’ve bookmarked
Updating your portfolio or website or both
Researching or otherwise planning a thing about which you want to write
Pitching an editor
Pitching yourself for a local lit lit reading event
Asking someone else to read your work to give you whatever specific type of feedback you want (pro tip: you have to name what you want; never, ever close an email with “thoughts?”)
Sharing the work of another writer
Doing a first-pass of collecting all you receipts and 1099s for tax time if you’re a freelancer or a one-person LLC, etc.
Read something written by someone else
