This activity is worth doing because often we frame the work we do in terms of ourselves (salary, stress, joy, achievement, etc.) or we overuse thinking and language to diminish our impact like “we” and “team,” at the exclusion of the self.
But, shifting our thinking to consider where our own knowledge serves others sets us down an entirely different path. And, that path can lead to reframing how we think about and market ourselves as writers, how we give ourselves permission to be authoritative about a given subject, and even, how we approach our work entirely.
