Write about a time when you wasted a ton of time, either by your own doing, or because someone wasted your time or didn’t respect it to begin with. Maybe you wasted years in a dead-end job, or maybe through some comedy of errors you wasted a ton of time on an important day or project, or maybe you have a coworker or friend with little regard for your time. Whatever popped into your head, write about that.
And, remember, the challenge here is not to let your writing simply be a journal entry of bitching about your asshole coworker or whomever the culprit, but rather a nuanced piece with a point to make. Which is not to say you can’t be super pissed at your coworker for rescheduling a meeting a handful of times and say as much in your writing, but push yourself to make that a metaphor through which you can speak to a larger message, or bring it around to be about your own boundaries, or whatever it is that lies beneath. That’s the key. Let’s go.
